Stillwell’s Bakery and Cafe in Kahului Takes an R&R Break

Its annual siesta time at Stillwell’s Bakery. Once a year they close the doors for some consecutive day of rest and relaxation. From Monday August 30 through September 8, 2010 they will not be serving any of their of their fabulous lunches, gourmet quiche, or incredible pies. But I get it, these bakers wake up at insane hours, wait on us hand and foot, and never see the sunrise at the beach, get to have brunch at one of our many fine establishments, or see their families.
Its all back on …

Maui Whole Foods is Almost Open – Highlights Here

Whole Foods Market is coming to the Maui Mall, with its Grand Opening announcement and commencement on Wednesday, February 24, 2010. I have been titillated by the prospect of perusing the aisles and shelves of the Whole Foods market, despite my undying support for the smaller locally owned and operated health food stores. I have been peering in the windows since they took the construction privacy wall

Five Lunches for Five and Change in Central Maui

Oyaku Tei is a little hole in the wall old school okazuya. They serve breakfast and lunch and their misoyaki butterfish is excellent. They are very reasonably priced but if you just have a few bucks in your pocket their Maui Cattle Company Cheeseburger deluxe is the way to

Asian Star is a Great Find in Wailuku Millyard

I didn’t expect to find exceptional Vietnamese food in the Wailuku Millyard area, I stumbled upon it. Although Wili Pa Loop is also home to Sam Sato’s famous for their noodles, it is definitely a surprise to find another great restaurant hidden up here among printing businesses, union offices and dentists. A few facts: Asian Star is open for lunch and dinner. Their menu is extensive with over 90 individual items organized by starches and protein categories. They also have a bar and wine and beer lists at the tables. …

Find our Mauitime Dining Listing Info Here

Bistro Casanova has opened in central Maui. Lucky enough to be there on there first day open I was pleasantly impressed with the service and food. Carla Tracy and I briefly discussed the long list restaurants that had been in the location, most recently Manana Garage. The place has had a complete facelift, and I am getting a very clean European vibe from the new decor.
I enjoyed a fabulous lunch starting with a salad and fritte for appetizers. The …

GOOD TIMES WITH GYOZA & GIRLFRIEND GOSSIP
I’m lucky. Lucky in that my best gal pal (besides a great listener) is a foodie like no other. She’s literally always got the scoop on the best eats and what to order and recently turned me on to Queen Ka’ahumanu’s Ramen Ya.
From our very first venture there, I was already hooked–their fried rice haunting my hungriest dreams. To ensure it wasn’t a good-day fluke, I had to go back. Sure enough the grindz were not only consistent, I think they might have even …

“I’ve got a case of katsu!” Phat Tony groaned, stuffed after having devoured a huge plate lunch of the most ono chicken katsu (his, kindly substituted with teriyaki sauce vs. tonkatsu sauce), one giant scoop of rice and some mean mac salad.
The place was packed, always a good sign for an eatery, no matter how small (and it is, small), jammed with locals and tourists alike. Good signs (like, as already mentioned, a crowd well-past the lunch rush hour; or beef stew that looks and smells like my Dad’s best; or …
